Check out this indie fusion of Terraria and Satisfactory-

A cool indie experiment in making a 2D sandbox automation game released late last month with AutoForge, where you as a little magically-powered robot must explore and expand your network of machinery and mining equipment to build a factory that will let you figure out your mysterious origins. As you explore, fragments of ancient technology let you upgrade your abilities and combat prowess to take on ever-greater challenges.

It’s pretty chill for an automation game, using a system of transport tubes that move goods while buildings in need can just snatch what they want from other adjacent tubes—no complex grabbers or direct machine hookups needed. That makes the automation more of a fun puzzle and less of a stressful optimation exercise. At least in the first few hours of pla…

Jurassic Park- Survival is a first-person action-adventure set days after the first movie-

A new Jurassic Park game was announced at the 2023 Game Awards, and if you’ve worried that the series’ fate was park management sims, this will come as a relief. Jurassic Park: Survival is a first-person, single player adventure set on Isla Nublar in the days following the events of the original 1993 film.

It’s a legit singleplayer narrative-driven game with an actual protagonist in the form of InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who unluckily failed to escape the island like everyone else. The official website doesn’t use the words “survival horror” (it prefers “action-adventure”) but the trailer definitely shows a very terrifying videogame. It’ll have a focus on “distraction and stealth” as a means to avoid being eviscerated by the reborn beasts.

It could very well be an…

Left 4 Dead prototype leaks-

After working on Counter-Strike: Condition Zero under contract for Valve, Turtle Rock Studios had a couple of ideas in the works. One was a first-person wizard game that never got off the ground, while the other was a mod for Counter-Strike that transformed the counter-terrorists into bots who came at you in swarms and only attacked with knives. This was Terror-Strike, and it was the foundation of Left 4 Dead.

As Turtle Rock founder Michael Booth explains in the Left 4 Dead commentary, “While we were developing bots for Counter-Strike: Source we discovered that a few of us armed to the teeth with automatic weaponry against 30 knife-wielding enemy bots was a lot of fun. After shipping Counter-Strike: Source in late 2004 we started experimenting with new game prototypes. That basic …

Intel’s new Core i9 14900KS CPU cracks 9.1GHz but still isn’t remotely relevant-

So, the Intel Core i9 14900KS has been clocked up to 9.118GHz, setting a new world record. But Intel’s new flagship is still about as real-world relevant as a gold-plated Bugatti double-parked in downtown Dubai.

The record was achieved by Asus running the chip courtesy of its ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore motherboard. Oh, and the minor matter of some liquid helium and a Vcore of 1.85V. Ouch.

On the back of that high operating frequency, Asus and the 14900KS claimed three further records. PiFast completed in just 6.79 seconds, SuperPI 1M finished in 3.768 seconds, and PYPrime 32B finished in 97.596 seconds. Huzzah!

Of course, these results are only an incremental improvement over the previous record of 9.044GHz achieved with a plain old 14900KF last September. And, of co…

Puny Asus Mini-ITX motherboard has a chipset on a stick-

Remember that characteristically quirky Asrock motherboard that transmogrified from an AMD B650 board into an X670? Well, Asus has got something similar going on with its new ROG X670E-I board. It has a chipset on a PCIe stick.

How so? Well, this all hinges on the fact that AMD’s B650 chipset uses a single chip, known as Promontory 21, whereas the premium X670 chipset houses two Promontory 21 chips daisy-chained together.

It’s basically a more cost effective way of adding features and connectivity compared with taping out two different chips or going with a single larger chip and switching off various features for the lower-end implementation.

Anywho, whereas the Asrock board was all about quirky for the sake of quirky, the Asus item is a function of more practical con…

Rtings latest OLED monitor burn-in tests are not good news for Samsung-

Rtings is four months and about 2,000 hours into its OLED PC monitor burn-in testing and the results so far do not look good for monitors with Samsung’s QD-OLED panels.

Admittedly, Rtings only has three monitors on test, two with Samsung QD-OLED tech and one with LG WOLED tech. But both of the Samsung-equipped monitors are showing signs of burn-in, while the LG model appears to have avoided any image retention.

Rtings conducts its tests running the CNN news channel 24/7. That’s a worst case scenario for OLED burn-in because it involves a bright white bar across the bottom of the display, including the ‘CNN’ logo. It’s basically purpose-built for burn-in, which is no doubt why Rtings tests this way.

For the record, the models in the test are the Alienware 34 AW3423DWF, …

Spooky! Bungie just made Destiny 2’s phenomenal Witch Queen campaign free for everyone-

In a surprising but frankly smart move, Bungie has today made The Witch Queen expansion free to all players. Not in perpetuity, though: You only have until February 27 at 9 am PST to play through the missions and grind out some of the 14 pieces of exotic armor and weapons that it includes. Here’s the spiel from Bungie:

“If you want to check out its amazing Legendary campaign, the Vox Obscura Exotic mission, a few Wellspring runs, or try the Vow of the Disciple raid, you totally can. All the loot you earn will be yours to keep, by the way, and you don’t have to download any additional content. The Witch Queen Standard Edition will just unlock on your installed game.” Note that the base game is free to play on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Obviously, this is an exercis…
