Puny Asus Mini-ITX motherboard has a chipset on a stick-

Remember that characteristically quirky Asrock motherboard that transmogrified from an AMD B650 board into an X670? Well, Asus has got something similar going on with its new ROG X670E-I board. It has a chipset on a PCIe stick.

How so? Well, this all hinges on the fact that AMD’s B650 chipset uses a single chip, known as Promontory 21, whereas the premium X670 chipset houses two Promontory 21 chips daisy-chained together.

It’s basically a more cost effective way of adding features and connectivity compared with taping out two different chips or going with a single larger chip and switching off various features for the lower-end implementation.

Anywho, whereas the Asrock board was all about quirky for the sake of quirky, the Asus item is a function of more practical con…

Rtings latest OLED monitor burn-in tests are not good news for Samsung-

Rtings is four months and about 2,000 hours into its OLED PC monitor burn-in testing and the results so far do not look good for monitors with Samsung’s QD-OLED panels.

Admittedly, Rtings only has three monitors on test, two with Samsung QD-OLED tech and one with LG WOLED tech. But both of the Samsung-equipped monitors are showing signs of burn-in, while the LG model appears to have avoided any image retention.

Rtings conducts its tests running the CNN news channel 24/7. That’s a worst case scenario for OLED burn-in because it involves a bright white bar across the bottom of the display, including the ‘CNN’ logo. It’s basically purpose-built for burn-in, which is no doubt why Rtings tests this way.

For the record, the models in the test are the Alienware 34 AW3423DWF, …

Spooky! Bungie just made Destiny 2’s phenomenal Witch Queen campaign free for everyone-

In a surprising but frankly smart move, Bungie has today made The Witch Queen expansion free to all players. Not in perpetuity, though: You only have until February 27 at 9 am PST to play through the missions and grind out some of the 14 pieces of exotic armor and weapons that it includes. Here’s the spiel from Bungie:

“If you want to check out its amazing Legendary campaign, the Vox Obscura Exotic mission, a few Wellspring runs, or try the Vow of the Disciple raid, you totally can. All the loot you earn will be yours to keep, by the way, and you don’t have to download any additional content. The Witch Queen Standard Edition will just unlock on your installed game.” Note that the base game is free to play on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Obviously, this is an exercis…

Baldur’s Gate 3 is so meaty, our Xbox cousins will need to play the Digital Deluxe on 4 disks wrapped in ‘little slips’ and stuffed into a single-disk box-

Baldur’s Gate 3 has some meaty patches with some equally-meaty space requirements—and while it might be easy to moan about having to corner off a bunch of room on our SSDs for patches, at least we aren’t playing on the Xbox version of the digital deluxe. It has four disks—twice as many as the PS5 version, and four times as many as on the PC version. According to a beleaguered director of publishing, it turns out that’s not really supposed to happen anymore.

After Larian’s Michael Douse confirmed that “the Xbox retail version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will indeed have four discs” on Twitter, he spoke with PC Gamer’s Ted Litchfield about the phenomena via email.

When Ted asks him whether the team felt a sense of pride about the whole thing&mda…

There’s already a Baldur’s Gate 3 mod that lets you multiclass on Explorer difficulty-

When you spin up a new game of Baldur’s Gate 3, it immediately asks you to choose between three difficulty options: Explorer, Balanced, and Tactician. The only description for the easiest mode, Explorer, is that it’s “a narrative experience placing story before combat.” It turns out that choosing Explorer doesn’t just make combat in Baldur’s Gate 3 easier—it also locks away multiclassing, which is a potentially confusing leveling option for first-time D&D players.

Two hours before Baldur’s Gate 3 even launched on Thursday, a modder had unlocked that limitation, making multiclassing available regardless of difficulty.

Multiclass Unlocker (Full Release Version) is the first BG3 mod to pop up on Nexusmods, and doesn’t have—or need—a very d…

There’s an Alex Jones game on Steam, and it’s just as much of an embarrassment as you’d expect-

InfoWars host Alex Jones now has a game on Steam—the same Alex Jones who fundraised for and attended the January 6 protests that led to the storming of the US Capitol building and who owes $1.5 billion to the families of murdered children over defamation.

It won’t surprise you to hear that Alex Jones: NWO Wars is not a good game, but its warmed over meme jokes have accrued over 400 positive reviews in just a few days. Reading them is awesome—they have the energy of those commenters on Reddit all trying to be the funniest guy in the room by saying the same thing, and AJ:NWOW seems to be cresting a wave of memetic popularity, yucking it up on the platform after a more limited release last November.

The best thing I can say about the Alex Jones game is…

Todd Howard says the Fallout show was so fanatical about detail that ‘We were sharing the files right from the games and they were 3D printing things’-

Say what you like about Bethesda (and I will), but it’s a studio that’s great at detail. Both Tamriel and the Wasteland overflow with gewgaws and knick-knacks that add life and colour to their respective worlds, alongside all the obligatory skeletons on toilets. Imagine, then, just how detailed the sets of the Fallout show had to be to surprise ol’ Todd Howard himself.

In a chat with Kinda Funny, Howard said that the experience of visiting the set for Amazon’s Fallout was “surreal,” noting that he “thought there’d be more movie magic, like, ‘Eh, they’re gonna fake a lot of stuff, a lot of it’s gonna be CG,'” before coming face-to-face with the show’s Vaults.

“You step in and they’ve built this two-story Vault, and the lights are all—they’re not fake light…
